Slack setup
Connect your agent to Slack with your own Slack app. Cohort gives you a ready-made app manifest, so setup is mostly copy and paste: create the app from the manifest, install it, and paste two tokens and your member ID into Cohort. It takes about five minutes.
You’ll need: permission to create and install apps in your Slack workspace, and your Slack member ID (so your agent knows it’s you).
Step 1: Start the wizard
- In Cohort, go to Settings → Channels and click Connect on Slack.
- Choose which agent the Slack app is for. The wizard shows a manifest for that agent.
- Click Copy to copy the manifest.
Step 2: Create the Slack app from the manifest
- Go to api.slack.com/apps and click Create New App.
- Choose From an app manifest, pick your Slack workspace, and paste the manifest.
- Review and create the app.
Step 3: Install the app and copy the bot token
- In the app’s settings, open Install App and install it to your workspace.
- Copy the Bot User OAuth Token. It starts with
xoxb-.
Step 4: Generate an app-level token
- Open Basic Information and scroll to App-Level Tokens.
- Generate a token with the
connections:writescope. - Copy it. It starts with
xapp-.
Step 5: Connect in Cohort
- Paste the Bot User OAuth Token and the App-Level Token into the wizard.
- Enter Your Slack member ID, such as
U12345678. In Slack, open your profile, click the ⋯ menu, and choose Copy member ID. - Click Connect. Cohort checks both tokens with Slack before saving them.
Then message your agent in Slack, in a direct message or by @mentioning it in a channel it has been added to.
Troubleshooting
The agent doesn’t reply.
- Make sure the member ID is yours: your agent answers only you.
- For channel messages, invite the app to the channel and @mention it.
- Give it a few seconds for the first message.
“Paste a Bot User OAuth Token that starts with xoxb-.” You pasted a different token. Copy the one under Install App.
“Paste an App-Level Token that starts with xapp-.” Generate an app-level token under Basic Information → App-Level Tokens with the connections:write scope.
Start over. Disconnect Slack in Settings → Channels, then run the wizard again.
